It is believed that the smoky haze and smell in the area in central Nebraska is drifting from the South Fork fire in Northwest Nebraska between Crawford and Harrison in Sioux County. There are no active fires in the area right now.

Several weather concerns for our listening area as we head into Tuesday evening/night ⬇️⬇️

Threats include the possibility for large to very large hail, damaging winds, and locally heavy rain. A tornado cannot be ruled out either.

Our immediate listening area in Custer County is being considered by the National Weather Service to have a 30 to 44% chance of hail between 1.5" and 2.5" in diameter as well as 60 to 80 MPH winds.

Custer County is nearly split in half northwest to southeast by a line that indicates the highest tornado potential to the east. However, an area of interest just to the west identified by the National Weather Service shows that initial supercells could develop further west. All of this considered, NWS predictions right now are a 5% to 9% probability of a tornado.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeast Custer County until 11 AM. Hazards with this storm include golf ball sized hail and 60 MPH winds.
