Another month, another birthday board for a corporate client! Sharp and smoked cheddar, honey goat, Amish blue, dill havarti, spicy and Genoa salami, herb sour cream dip, garlic stuffed olives, apricot preserves, pistachios, honey mustard sesame sticks, dried apricots, grapes and mini cucumbers. Crackers on the side so you get more of the good stuff and they stay cracker crisp. Happy snacking!

Let's talk about the King of Queso, CHEDDAR 🧀! One of the most popular cheeses in the US since the mid 19th century, cheddar gets its namesake from the small village of Cheddar in Somerset England. Thought to have been invented in the 12th century, cheddar has come a long way from its origins as a cave aged wonder and was catapulted to popularity by King Henry the ll, who purchased over 10,000 pounds of it for a banquet in 1107, and declared it the finest of all cheeses. Today cheddar can be made all over the world from the US to Australia with hundreds of different varieties from vintage clothbound recipes to the quintessential "orange" Mid West American cheddar (helped by the addition of annatto coloring). Cheddar can be funky and dry or moist and mellow. There really is a cheddar for everyone and there is always one variety or another on our charcuterie boards. Paired with apples, beer or as topping for burgers and sandwiches it's no wonder cheddar holds the 👑.

Let's talk bloomy rind cheeses! There are many, many varieties of bloomy rind cheeses and they run from very mild and supremely buttery to an intense and bold mushroomy or ammonia like flavor. Popular varieties readily available in US supermarkets are Brie and Camembert, which tend toward the mild flavor profile with light tastes of mushroom, minerals and earth. One of my favorites is an Italian cheese called robiola tre latti, which is made with cow, sheep and goats milk. These cheeses are made for spreading on crackers or crostini and are incredible with a dollop of fig or apricot jam or honey. Pair with a crisp white wine or a medium bodied red. Most of our charcuterie boards feature at least one bloomy rind cheese with accompanying jam.
