presented composers


Open to professional players and teachers, pre-college students, college/grad students, and amateurs. Though there will in-depth exploration of the solo Bach violin works, we also welcome violists, cellists, and bassists. WHAT WE WILL DO:

In the month before the workshop, participants will have two lessons by Zoom with either Gary Capozziello or Katie Lansdale. These lessons will be scheduled according to your availability and the instructors’. At the workshop, we will combine lessons and masterclasses with lively discussion sessions. Participants will observe and perform in Masterclasses with Katie Lansdale, and have lessons with Gary Capozziello. Dr. Capozziello will also lead group sessions in Meditation and Alexander Technique. The workshops also include group playing of string ensemble music, listening to professional performances, and interactions with "practice pods", or small groups of participants working towards similar goals. The workshop culminates in a Sunday afternoon concert featuring participants and instructors in group and solo performances. During free time, participants are welcome to hike the surrounding area and explore the renowned, on-site historic garden. Meals are communal and the program will offer optional evening group activities. Schedule:

The workshop lasts 6 days, but participants have the option of coming for fewer days. Monday: Participants are welcome to arrive at 5 pm or later, unless they choose to arrive by 9 am Tuesday morning. Tuesday through Saturday, the workshop begins daily at 9:30 and ends by 5. (**Please note that there are alternate schedules available for those who need a shorter day. Please let us know if you are interested.) Optional evening events will be offered. On Sunday, participants can expect to be able to leave Sunday around 6:30, unless they choose to stay overnight. Where: Promisek, a communal educational and environmental estate located on the Three Rivers Farm in Bridgewater, CT. 860-350-8226. Driving/GPS Address: 694 Skyline Ridge Rd, Bridgewater CT 06752. Lodging is available in bedrooms in the Main House. Rooms are limited to the first 10 people to sign up, and need to be reserved as soon as possible. Some participants will be assigned roommates. Lodging costs an additional $25/night. Connecticut participants are welcome to commute if they choose to. Food: Meals are provided by the workshop and are prepared/cleaned communally. Fundraising helps keep this workshop highly affordable.

6 days--- $630 per participant, $170 per auditor. It is recommended that participants attend for 6 days. However, to accommodate those with limited availability, two other options are possible:

4 days----$420 per participant, $115 per auditor.
2 days---$210 per participant, $75 per auditor

What a whirlwind of a week! The final days of the workshop included Baroque dance bingo, a mini performance on Saturday morning featuring duos and a Paganini Caprice, bracelet making, group discussions, and of course, our final concert. While we’re sad to say bye to everyone, we’re so glad to have had such a fantastic week! See you next summer!

PROMISEK BACH+ WORKSHOPS for string players Katie Lansdale, violinist and director Jan. 10-13, 2019 (with an option to come only for the weekend) Promisek / Bridgewater, CT For professional performers and teachers, graduate and college students, precollege students, and amateurs. All string instruments welcome Whether you are beginning to explore solo Bach violin repertoire or returning to it many times over, these workshops provide in-depth exploration of this magnificent repertoire. Come explore this most glorious and personal of music indepth. Come as a participant, and perform in masterclasses, lessons, concert. Or, come as auditor and observe the study of Bach from every vantage point. Each workshop includes: overview/discussions of solo Bach solo string repertoire; professional performances; masterclasses as well as a lesson practice time for all participants; group ensemble playing of Baroque music ; interact with a "practice pod", or small group of participants working on similar issues; and 3 pm Sunday concert by participants and Katie Lansdale. In addition to general discussions and work in masterclasses, this time our workshop has a special focus on Classical Concerti movements. The legacy of solo Bach music is that it has inspired composers for centuries afterwards. For this workshop, participants are invited to bring a solo piece other than Bach’s, and/or a Classical Concerto movement. Please note your piece(s) on the form.
