Had a great time performing and sharing career stories at RAHS. Shout out to for building a bridge linking the arts, education, and real-world application. 🎶❤️
Today, Alternative High School music students enjoyed a performance from Hot Club of Black Rock, a New Orleans/Parisian gypsy style jazz band.
Music teacher Michael McNamara, who lived and played music in the Black Rock area many years ago, writes, “AHS music experience students have been studying jazz (concomitantly with guitar), whose traditions started in New Orleans. In this unit, we have been using a combination of the Ken Burns documentary on Jazz (I recommend you check it out if you haven’t seen it!) as well as discussions on the genre’s relevance in American history and music of the present day. However, nothing does jazz justice like experiencing it live with these top-notch musicians from Hot Club of Black Rock.”
After a fantastic performance, the band shared their career paths and journeys with A-School students.
