PERPETUAL BRICKS - OUR CHARITABLE GROUP

One of our missions is to help deserving people experience the creativity, fun and happiness that LEGO provides. Perpetual Bricks wants to be part of the process in helping families pay it forward. We offer a way to reuse dona

ted LEGO so it can be rebuilt, reimagined and reloved by those who will benefit the most. The majority of LEGO is built from durable ABS plastic, which means it is not accepted by most recycling centers; they remove it and send it to landfills. Toy drives request new packaged toys and few second-hand stores accept used toys. If thrift shops do take LEGO, they prefer complete sets with instructions. We will restore and package many complete LEGO sets from the donations we receive. Our group teams up with local and regional child advocacy organizations, particularly those who support and service kids involved in the foster care system. Through these associations, we will be able to place age-appropriate LEGO sets with underprivileged kids. These gifts have the most impact during holidays and birthdays. Perpetual Bricks accepts used LEGO parts, minifigures and sets in any condition, including Duplo, Friends, Technic and Mindstorms. With the help of countless volunteers from a variety of community groups, we are prepared to collect, clean, sort and itemize everything that’s donated in order to prepare and package complete LEGO sets in addition to collections of parts to be distributed to those in need. Compiling and packaging sets takes time, and we want to benefit as many deserving people as possible. We also contribute small and large assortments of LEGO parts and elements. Bulk collections are often requested for groups in educational, child-care, family shelters and even senior-care facilities. They get a box with a variety of parts, allowing endless possibilities for creativity and imagination. Together, we can encourage, inspire, and challenge the creativity of Lego builders young and less young. Playing with LEGO helps young minds grow and provides cognitive stimulation at any age. Building teaches problem solving and creative thinking. Play allows one to escape into a word of imagination, a world where they can feel in control and it builds smile! Everyone deserves to smile! Perpetual Bricks provides a positive and charitable way for the community to come together. We provide volunteer opportunities for families and groups. In return, they become part of the solution to recycle LEGO and provide new opportunities. Giving feels good!

The Flag Barn Workshop was rewarding, although held on a day with several other community events. Although the $10 registration fee did not include keeping the model, everyone who built one chose to purchase it afterwards.

I've since had several requests for plans to build it and/or attend another workshop. Note that a 2nd workshop has not been scheduled, but I am considering it. Details will be announced it it happens.

We had a nice turnout for the Lego Flag Barn Workshop at the East Contra Costa Historical Society. It was a family friendly event - kids, parents and grandparents all building together. So much fun!
