It’s not too late to spend your summer choosing from two PHENOMENAL programs at one location (Somerset Academy Canyons), Brighthouse Day Camp 2021 or the YES Basketball Academy Summer Camp.

Brighthouse Day Camp 2021 is both a Sports & General Camp which offers a special place where your camper can call it their "Summer Home". Kids can enjoy being kids and the top priorities are participation, learning and FUN in a safe, family oriented environment.

The YES Basketball Academy Summer Basketball Camp, lead by Somerset Academy Varsity Head Coach Zach Benach, will be aimed at teaching all children, whether beginners or advanced, about the game of basketball through quality, high-intensity, drill based camps that will focus on not only bettering a players skill set on the court but also building character and confidence off the court.

We wanted to reach out and give you an update on Brighthouse Day Camp 2021.

We want to let you know that we will ABSOLUTELY have Brighthouse Day Camp 2021 this summer. Camp will start on Monday, June 21 – Friday, August 7 (7 weeks). We will be offering Sports Camp, General Camp, LIT & Intern programs this summer.

We were advised yesterday that permission has been granted to Palm Beach County Schools to host outside camps like Brighthouse Day Camp. Somerset Academy Canyons, being a charter school works a little differently and has to get approval from their Board. From what we have been told their next Board Meeting is Tuesday, April 20 but we are VERY confident that Brighthouse Day Camp will take place on their campus this summer. YES!!!!

In the meantime the kind people of Faith United Methodist Church on Boynton Beach Blvd. & Jog Road have made their campus available to Brighthouse Day Camp 2021 this summer if we are unable to use Somerset Academy Canyons. Not only will we be able to use their gymnasium but they have given us access to a large part of their campus with a number of classrooms, outdoor fields, and other space we will create to make it just as PHENOMENAL. We also had inquiries from a few other facilities interested in hosting Brighthouse Day Camp as well that we are looking into. We are not short of options this summer.

When we are given the go ahead at Somerset Academy Canyons we will then send out registration information. We do not want to take any registrations until we know for sure the final details for this summer.

What we know is we will be ready for camp to start on Monday, June 21.

It is time for us to bring back NORMALCY and FUN for your children and we can’t wait to have the Brighthouse Day Camp FAMILY back together very soon. We appreciate your understanding and support and hope to have more information as soon as possible.

YOU CAN’T TEACH THAT!!!

Good afternoon! I hope this post finds you well.

I was hoping to be writing a post saying that we are excited to announce that we will officially be starting Brighthouse Day Camp on Monday, June 15.

Yesterday we thought that this was our reality but as we have been saying, we are going day by day and last evening we were told that we are NOT ABLE to use Temple Torat Emet’s facility this summer. Why? Below will explain!

I feel I need to let you know what happened with Temple Torat Emet and what caused them to last evening renege on their contract proposal sent to me on Monday. I wouldn’t normally do this but I think it’s important for everyone to know the truths and facts and how hard we have tried to make Brighthouse Day Camp 2020 a reality this summer and how one man’s threats could change everything in an instant.

We have been in negotiations with Temple Torat Emet for over 3 1/2 weeks (started on Monday, May 18). I have had conversations with both the President and Vice President and there was absolute mutual interest.

Once a proposal was agreed upon every day I would ask for a contract or an update so I could let our families and staff know where we were going and was told it’s coming. It was probably 7-10 days before we finally received a contract on Monday, June 8 and like any contract, there were a few things that we wanted to see changed, added, etc. I was emailed their recommendations and I agreed with everything they had said and wanted to get the contract signed so we can finally make the announcement. I was then told the contract needed to be reviewed once again and had to wait another day.

Finally I tried to touch base yesterday morning and was told that there was a problem and that the Chief Executive Officer & President of the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches has “threatened the President of Temple Torat Emet with retribution if we go through with the rental to YES and called it a declaration of war”.

I was then texted that the President of Temple Torat Emet has decided that the threat from the Chief Executive Officer & President of the Greater Palm Beaches is too much and has decided she WILL NOT sign the agreement.

Therefore I am saddened to say that what I thought was a formality is no longer an option and we are back to square one. We are actively seeking alternate locations to open Brighthouse as soon as possible.

It is extremely disappointing to us how the Chief Executive Officer & President of the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches would act in this manner. Not only are they threatening another Jewish agency, they are holding back a possible 80-100 campers from resuming some kind of normalcy in their lives and hurting parents that need a place for their children.

I worked at that facility for 15 years, opened the building while working in a trailer, met my wife there, had my two kids during that time and they went to pre-school and camp there. I met Zach Benach when he was in 4th Grade and now he is the YES Basketball Academy Director. I met Quincy there when he was 19, he met his wife there and now he is the Program Director of YES. I have met countless people I still call friends to this day.

I am embarrassed to have been associated with this agency and this just justifies the decision I made 6 years ago to leave and create YES and try to better my family!!

I am mostly disappointed for the families that have been waiting for us to let them know our status for weeks. We have let each and every one of you down and that is what hurts us the most. We are all set to go but are being denied the opportunity.

We are sorry from the bottom of our hearts for this bad news but we will not feel sorry for ourselves and will overcome whatever obstacle that is put in front of us.

With that being said, we are not giving up on our search. We appreciate your patience but completely understand if you can no longer wait for us and let us know if you would like a refund. We will though continue to do whatever it takes to have some kind of Brighthouse Day Camp 2020.

We have space available in our YES Basketball Academy Summer Camp for those entering 2nd - 8th grades and are looking to start a YES Soccer Academy Summer Camp with information coming in the coming days.
