Nick + Serene

Nick and Serene assembled an all-star team for their wedding day: the always spectacular Sylvan Lake exquisitely decorated by Justin Straw Designs, photos by Sandra Nichols, and logistics coordination by Maya from houseofnorn.

They wanted their wedding day to be a celebration of their indigenous culture, complete with portions of the ceremony given in Lakota, traditional blessings passed down through generations spoken over them through the day, and a round dance at dusk.

It was such an honor to be a small part of this intimate celebration in the shadow of Black Elk Peak, one of the most sacred places on Mother Earth.

Erin and Alex are a real-life story of the beloved sitcom New Girl.

Erin was on the hunt for a place to live off campus while she was finishing college in Brookings. She ran across a listing of a room available for rent in a house near campus, a house shared by Alex and his roommates.

The guys of the house had one simple rule: No one dates Erin, lest things get messy. Alex promptly broke that rule when a short time later, he and Erin were dating.

And like the show, they got their happy ending, with guests from 16 different states coming to the Black Hills for their celebration.

Nearly three years ago to the day, we had the honor of being a part of Rudy’s sister’s wedding at Sylvan Lake.

We made enough of an impression that last night, Rudy and Tasha asked us to do their wedding, once again at Sylvan.

And it was just as electric this time as it was for Chandler and Kara’s wedding.

Kyle grew up in South Dakota but chose to go to college in Tacoma, Washington. While there, through a mutual group of friends, she met Jacob, who was visiting for the weekend from Washington State University.

Through a series of life events, they had to endure several years of a long distance relationship, cherishing every moment they got to spend in the same place.

The couple now calls Sioux Falls home, where Kyle is finishing med school, but wanted to celebrate their wedding in the always immaculate Custer State Park, a place that holds a special place in the hearts of Kyle’s family.
