For the fifth straight year, the Capitol is proud to host the Sky Arts Film Festival this Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17! The mission of the Sky Arts Film Festival is to grow and develop the media industry in Southern Kentucky by giving filmmakers, media professionals, content creators, movie goers, students, and teachers the opportunity to learn and experience an unforgettable event centered around the art of film making. Each day features a collection of short film blocks and panel discussions!

Monday (10/5) - Kristin Hannah fans are invited to meet at the Bob Kirby Branch's KIRB Appeal Book Club at 5 p.m. to discuss Winter Garden.

Tuesday (10/6)
>>Come outside to enjoy nature-themed stories, activities, and outdoor play at Reservoir Hill Park with Camp Loucon and the library crew at Storytime at the Park at 11 a.m.
>>Following the free 12:30 p.m. animated movie, meet its popular canine star -- Scooby-Doo -- at a Meet & Greet at the Capitol.
>>Add an extra level of SHINE to your reading experience at the SOKY Center at the Book Bedazzling program at 5:30 p.m. for a minimal $3 materials fee. Bring your own book to decorate or select one from our free stash.

Wednesday (10/7) - Kids ages 5 & up will enjoy making cards they can keep or trade at Art Lab's Artist Trading Cards activity at 3 p.m. at the Lisa Rice Library.

Thursday (10/8) - Meet everyone's favorite Paw Patrol character at the National Corvette Museum. WCPL will host Storytime with Chase at 11 AM.

Students ages 13-18 interested in entering Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition are invited to a Open Workshop Hour at 3:30 P.M. at the Bob Kirby Branch. Come work on your pieces, ask for feedback or advice, get help with our Scholastic submission portal or learn more about the Idea Lab and how it can help you create pieces to submit.

Teens in South Central Kentucky in grades 7 through 12 (ages 13 to 18) from the South Central Kentucky Region are invited to submit creative, original work in a variety of categories to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Submissions are open October 1 through December 20. Create a login and submit entries online here:

In addition, to assist those who might like or need a little guidance in the process, WCPL will host free workshops to provide feedback, advice, or help with the admissions portal. Those will be scheduled on alternating Thursday afternoons at two of our locations, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and lasting one hour.
>>October 8 and November 12 workshops will take place at the Bob Kirby Branch.
>>October 22 and December 10 sessions will take place at the Capitol.
