The Retreat launched in 2017ā€”which, in escape room years, is like the Paleozoic era. So weā€™re giving it the revamp it deserves: new puzzles, updated set design, Ā new storyline, and yesā€”just a touch more fear. We love it dearly, but we know we can give you more.Ā

THE 20% OFF PROMO MUST CONTINUE


Well, weā€™ve done it. We thought we could handle it, but apparently, the code word we used for our promo was too powerful. ā€œ arugula ā€œ overloaded our systems. It seems your enthusiasm broke our servers, and weā€™re not sure how to feelā€¦flattered? Stunned? Both? Weā€™ve never experienced this amount of arugula in our lives. Usually that giant plastic container of it is enough to overwhelm anyone, but this isā€¦this is different.

Mike and Tina have dug through the months research, and insist the promo code was too good, too strong, and way too enticing. So, weā€™ve had no choice but to keep the sale aliveā€¦ but with a new code.

This time, to hopefully soften the excitement, weā€™re switching the promo code to something a little more... neutral. Enter the new word: ā€œ kaleā€. Yes, another leafy green.

We collaborated with Trapology Boston to build a real-life escape room at the GBH studios in Boston, and over the last few nights we've had a blast watching three IRL players beat the escape room with the help of our online audience (YOU).

Headsets are on. So so so many lights are set up. Streamers stations are good to go. Panera catering has been put away. Audio has been tested (and WGBH audio techs have successfully embarrassed us with the quality of our audioā€¦ ā€œYouā€™re not an audio person, are you?ā€). We have been reminded what a QQ is. (It means cue to cue). We have doubled cheeked that Trapology feed is plugged into decimator.

In 2.5 hours, we will be streaming episode 1, and we are ready. šŸ’Ŗ

Get your puzzle-solving skills ready ā€“ We have collaborated with Trapology Boston to build a real-life escape room, and we're inviting STEM-savvy streamers to play it next week! Here's the catch: They need help from YOU, our online audience, to complete the game.

The sci-fi narrative of the game is this: It's the year 2999, and the A.I. that the world relies on is glitching. Our players will need to solve the room in order to fix it.
