Furthermore, during Jo's childhood years participating in his church and school choir, is what ultimately led to his interest in music. As well being able to play the trumpet without being able to formally read music at the time of his discovery.. Secondly, Jo's style of spoken word s
tems from his cultural upbringing of being Haitian - American and the experiences of his life and those around him, and the culture and love of Hip Hop. In 2011 after receiving positive responses in the Ralph Lauren Polo Rugby Poetry contest, this led Jo to take his craft as an artist more seriously. In 2013 Jo St-Surin was awarded Best Male Student Poet on campus from University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Proceeding past his accomplishments, Jo continues to perform , from the likes of but not limited to: Brown University, MIT, University of Massachusetts at Boston (UMass Boston) and all over New England.
