🇨🇻 To Cape Verde, and to every Cape Verdean who filled the Lawn twice this summer: thank you. 🖤
What a run. What a team. What a story.
A nation smaller than most American cities, in its very first World Cup, walked onto the biggest stage in the world and refused to be anyone’s easy game.
On Friday, they pushed the defending champions to the very end before falling just short. The world expected a formality. Cape Verde delivered one of the games of the tournament.
They lost. And somehow, they made everyone who watched feel like they’d won something.
But this letter isn’t only about what happened on the field. It’s about you.
It’s about the Cape Verdean community here in Boston, one of the largest in the country, who showed up for the debut against Spain and showed up again for this one. Who brought the flags, the food, the music, the pride, and turned a watch party into a homecoming.
Who reminded this whole city what it looks like when a people love their team out loud.
Boston is home to that love, and this summer, we got to witness it. Thank you for letting us hold that space with you.
Morabeza, always. The Blue Sharks made history, and you made it feel like home. 🇨🇻⚽
One city. Every culture. All summer long. 🔥
