What’s the difference between Mezcal & Tequila? Well, Tequila is a specific type of mezcal made only from the Blue Weber agave in a few designated regions of Mexico, mainly Jalisco (now called Tequila, MX). The Mexican government also owns the trademark rights to the “tequila” name (how convenient). Mezcal can be made from over 30 agave species from anywhere in Mexico. Notable differences also include the traditional cooking method for mezcal (roasting in underground pits with mesquite wood creating a smoky flavor) versus tequila’s ovens, creating a diversity of flavors in mezcal compared to tequila’s more consistent, citrusy profiles. Our Smoke & Blood made with smokey, Artisanal Joven Mezcal shaken with blood orange, passion fruit, freshly squeezed lime juice & a smoked salt rim sets off all the smoke alarms!
