October 22nd was the last full day that the sun was in Libra, represented by the scales. This sign is associated with beauty, balance, and harmony. Its ruling planet is Venus, named for the Roman goddess of love. If you are a Libra or you are close with one, this will be no surprise to you because you know how Libra moves through life - like a love deity with others gravitating toward their beauty and charm.
Libra is intellectual and communicative like the other air signs (Gemini and Aquarius), but perhaps with more finesse and sensitivity to their audience. They have a lot of self awareness and grace. They seek balance in all aspects of life, from their relationships to their health consciousness.
When you think of the period between September 23rd and October 23rd, what comes to mind? Autumn begins with the equinox in September. Historically, the equinoxes have been said to be the days during which there is a balance of light and shadow. This balance is perfectly symbolized by the scales of Libra, the zodiac that ushers in the season of golden sunlight, deep shadows, and brilliant colors. Entranced by the beauty around us, we want to drink in every drop of that magic. The fascination people feel while under the spell of autumnβs beauty is much like the way people tend to react to Libras.
In the Rider Waite Colman Tarot, Libra corresponds with Trump VIII in the major arcana: Justice, the card featuring scales, and most associated with balance. As mentioned previously, in my discussion of Leo, the Thoth Tarot deck designed by Aleister Crowley and Frieda Harris is different, with Trump 8 corresponding with Libra. In this deck, the change in the name of the card (from Justice to Adjustment) suggests that karma is more of a teacher than a punishment. As symbolized by the scales and conceptualized by the zodiac of Libra and its corresponding Tarot trumps, an important part of lifeβs journey is perfecting ourselves in an ongoing way, through adjustment, balance, and recalibration.
