The cars are required to weigh 2,400 pounds with the driver and possess engines that can make upwards of 700 horsepower, turning in excess of 8,000 RPM's, with engines being based on Chevrolet, Ford, MOPAR, and Toyota V-8 power plants. The American Modified Series sanctions its events under the governing banner of the UMP DIRTcar organization, with drivers not only eligible to earn points toward the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series Championship Standings, but also earning National Points toward the overall UMP DirtCar Modified National Championship. Having started slowly and steadily rising through the ranks, the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series is set for its biggest season ever as it rolls into its seventh season in 2016. The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series is about giving the racers of the Dirt Open Wheel Modified division a platform to gain exposure for themselves and sponsors, compete for elevated amounts of prize money compared to weekly racing shows, compete against the top regional Dirt Open Wheel Modified racers, and to travel and race at some of the best racing venues in the region that promote Dirt Open Wheel Modified competition.
