Every time I unlock my office door at The Bishops’ House, I have the same thought: "We are so lucky!"

We are lucky this house survived the urban renewal of the 1970s. We are lucky we have a community that values its roots. And I am personally lucky to work alongside a volunteer board dedicated to every shingle and floorboard of this home.

But as any caretaker of a 137-year-old home will tell you, the work of preservation never ends.

Today, for Idaho Gives, I am asking for your help. We aren't just looking to "keep the lights on." We are always working to ensure this landmark remains safe and beautiful for the next generation of Boiseans.

We are honored to have received donations from many of you in the community. Family, friends, and champions of historic preservation supporting our mission means so much to the house.

Please, if you haven't yet, I encourage you to join us by donating through Idaho Gives on this final day. Your donation will be matched one-to-one and will further our mission of preservation and restoration.

Whether you’ve joined us for a Victorian Tea, the Kentucky Derby, one of the hundreds of weddings, or simply strolled through the gardens listening for the horned owls or peaking at frogs in the lilies, you know that The Bishops’ House is more than a historic home. It’s a living part of our city’s story.

Please join us in protecting that story.

With gratitude,
Amelia M. Berg
Executive Director, Friends of The Bishops' House

The Heart Behind the House: Meet Our Board

While The Bishops' House is made of brick, wood, and stained glass, she is kept alive by the sheer heart and dedication of our volunteer Board of Directors.

These individuals aren't just administrators—they are historians, restoration enthusiasts, and community advocates who roll up their sleeves every single day. From coordinating complex preservation projects to spending their weekends getting their hands dirty to ensure our gardens are ready to be enjoyed by guests, their dedication to The Bishops' House is what keeps our doors open and our history alive.

Why They Do It
Our board members believe that Boise’s architectural heritage is a gift worth protecting. They work tirelessly behind the scenes because they know that once these historic spaces are gone, they are gone forever.

Double Their Hard Work During Idaho Gives!
The best way to honor the thousands of volunteer hours our board pours into this house is to help us reach our Idaho Gives goal. Remember, we have a matching fund active right now—meaning your donation works twice as hard, just like our board!

Your support provides the resources they need to continue the vital work of restoration and education. Show our board some love and help us preserve a piece of Boise's soul. By donating here:

Double the impact, double the love!

Exciting news, Boise! We have a huge announcement for Idaho Gives this week!

Thanks to our incredibly generous supporters at LKV Architects, every dollar donated to The Bishops' House from now until the end of the campaign will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar up to $2000!

What does this mean for our Historic Home? Your $25 becomes $50 to help restore our iconic wrap-around porch. Your $100 becomes $200 to preserve our original Victorian stained glass. Your $250 becomes $500 to ensure our gardens remain a beautiful community space for generations to come.

We are currently working hard on critical restoration projects to keep the "Grand Dame" of Boise standing tall. Idaho Gives is the single most impactful time to give—your support goes twice as far in protecting Idaho's architectural heritage when you donate through the link below

For 137 years, The Bishops' House has stood as a testament to the city's heritage. From its beautiful exterior to the stories lived and celebrations hosted, it is a piece of Boise’s soul. Yet history requires a helping hand to stay standing and not fade away.

Join us this week for Idaho Gives, and be a part of our mission to preserve and sustain this Victorian treasure. Your donation goes directly toward critical restoration projects like plasterwork and repairing damaged trim that ensure the "Grand Dame" remains a home for community, weddings, and history for the next century.
