Honoring Their Sacrifice | Memorial Day at An Empty Vase

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day isn’t about barbecues or beach days—it’s about honoring sacrifice, preserving legacy, and reflecting on the price of freedom.

You may have seen the red poppy worn or shared today. Its history traces back to the battlefields of World War I, where poppies grew among the graves of soldiers in Flanders Fields. Inspired by the famous poem, the red poppy became a worldwide symbol of remembrance—representing both the blood shed and the resilience of those who served.

As we enjoy the beauty around us, may we never forget the cost. Today, we remember the fallen—and we carry their stories forward.

We love our community and are proud to be able to support Chef Mark at Compadres Hill Country Cocina in being a blessing to others!

There are thousands, millions of stories you don’t hear everyday…stories of inspiration and stories of heartbreak. This weekend we were honored and blessed to have heard a story of love and loss, a single father of 3 boys comes in to enjoy his weekly lunch every Saturday, usually with his sons. This story hit close to home because I put myself in his son’s shoes, their mom lost her life 4 years ago due to a brian aneurism. Every year the dad and his sons honor and remember their mother by going out to downtownn San Antonio, and pass out 12 long stem roses…to random strangers. This is the way they brighten up people’s lives and remember their mother and how she would like to bless others, every year on Mother’s Day. This year after hearing their story, made it my mission to partner up with our friends over at An Empty Vase in Boerne, our little neighbors with big hearts. As swamped as they were with Mother’s Day around the corner, these woman, most of them mothers took their time and got this father and his sons ready to go do gods work, they donated some beautiful long stem roses for their mission. If you’re ever in the area, and need some amazing bouquets or arrangements, please do yourselves a favor and support this amazing business. Not only do they do small blessings like these, but they also are the official florist of our annual Gold Star Brunch, but also our Purple Heart Project Gala every year. 💐🥰🙏🏻
