Aunt Willie's Wildflowers

Aunt Willie's Wildflowers What a delight it is for us to grow specialty cut flowers on beautiful Tennessee farm land gently handed down through six generations.

We invite you to choose flowers for that very special wedding, join a workshop or two or contact us about purchasing flowers for a very special occasion. All flowers are farm grown. Some are heirloom and some are just plain pretty. Our hope is that through Aunt Willie’s Wildflowers, the love of all things wild that grow and blossom will pass beyond our family to any who would choose to share in all that God graciously bestows.

I like the peace and quiet that tags along with early Sunday mornings.

Able to use the tail end of spring snaps along with the beginnings of summer - butterfly w**d, dahlias, and roadside rudbeckia . . . with sunflowers for a pop 🌻

Every week is different on a flower farm and that makes it all the sweeter.

When campanula bloom, spring is at its finest. This morning I woke up, drove the side-by-side to the hoop, gathered a few pink and white campanula, headed to the chicken coop/design studio 😉, added a few peonies and bupleurum and plopped them in a vase. Some arrangements make themselves ☺️

True confessions, I took a little tumble on the way to the sanctuary but somehow managed to keep the flowers in their vase. They looked a little disheveled but we’ll just call it the natural look ☺️

SOLD OUT! There’s more to growing dahlias than just sticking them in the ground . . . . So, we’ve upgraded our Growing Dahlias workshop! We’ve added a date in August when we will gather a second time when dahlias are in full bloom and share how to harvest and store Dahlias and I’ll demo how to use Dahlias in a bouquet. Then we’ll meet a third time in late October when we’ll show how to dig divide and store tubers inside or how to overwinter in the ground.

The heart of the workshop is next Thursday May 21 where we’ll learn all the basics of growing and each will choose 10 sprouted tubers to take home. Just 2 spots left! All that info is in the link https://www.auntwillieswildflowers.com/product/growing-dahlias/

Join us if you can!

More on the saga of all my purple Sweet peas 💜 The most abundant varieties are Windsor the dark maroon, Jimmy Shand the purple and white, and Nimbus the burgundy flake. Turns out they are the longest stemmed Sweet peas I’ve ever grown. Never had them fill out a regular bucket and work in the center of a bouquet instead of just as a collar. They won’t stay this long forever as warm temps coming will shorten them up, but I’m sure enjoying them while I have them.

Workshop- May 21, 5:30-7:30 pm

Dahlias are so easy to love and so addictive! At this workshop we will share all we know about dahlias and we’ll send you home with 10 dahlia tubers and the knowledge to grow, harvest, divide, and store them beautifully. By planting now you will have dahlias blooming late summer til first frost and for years to come. Some of our over-wintered dahlias are up and growing so you can see what early growth looks like. We will also plant a few tubers so you can see exactly how we do it. We will discuss with a handout and demonstrate in the field our netting system, proper spacing, when and how to deep cut/pinch, and how to harvest. Then we’ll each divide a clump of Dahlias into individual tubers so you can learn to spot the “eyes” and divide your own. We’d love to have you join us if you’re interested in able. All the deets in the link.

When the Sweet peas match the sunrise, good things will surely follow. Same bouquet two different mornings with just the right amount of clouds and sunshine.

Last year I successfully saved Sweet pea seeds and planted what I thought was a long row of various pinks and a long row of purples last November. Well, turns out I had mislabeled my seeds so I have two long beautiful rows of several different shades of purple, including my 2 favorites, Jimmy Shand and Windsor. I have a handful of pinks and whites and I will try to mark those very carefully for next year seeds.

You’d think after 22 years I would’ve figured things out 🥴 Oh well, good thing I like purple! 💜 Hope I still do at the end of the season!

If your daughter ever asks you to be on the prom committee, promise me you’ll say yes ☺️

Besides a fun hand tied bouquet that said springtime, there was a boutonniere that made it through eighth grade shenanigans, table pieces where eighth graders were not going to sit still and chat, and an arbor with a bit of wild stuff! (more pics and stories)

Best part was working with my daughter and just getting to just be a tiny part of it all for a moment. Children and grandchildren make life all the sweeter 💕

And thanks to for the extra flowers! Flower farmer friends are the best!
