Hi Debbie,
I really appreciate you reaching out. I was planning to send you an email about my experience with Gessie. My wedding was April 25th and it was wonderful. Gessie did my alterations, as well as alterations for my matron of honor. Gessie charged me $600 for alterations plus $35 for the cost of the cups for my dress. She initially charged my Matron of Honor $150 plus $35 for cups, and then asked for another $25 at the second fitting. When my matron of honor said that she had initially said $150 plus cups, Gessie told her that she usually charges $250.
Both my matron of honor and I thought Gessie was very kind, but ultimately were not satisfied with her work. My matron of honor had side sleeves/straps on her dress and one was reattached to the dress upside down, the bust alterations were sloppy/lumpy looking, and she forgot to put the cups in until my matron of honor was there and asked. It was a rushed job, with only a small stitch holding the cups in place. My matron of honor commented to me that Gessie seemed overwhelmed and struggling to keep track of what she was working on.
My experience was similar - there was one fitting appointment where I was unsure if any work had happened since the previous time I was there. On my wedding day, I discovered the dress was missing buttons in the back, something that was only discovered when I went to put it on. It didn't impact the fit of my dress, but aesthetically it looked undone. Thankfully, my planner's kit included fashion tape, so all was well for the day.
Again, Gessie is a lovely person and it was nice to meet her, but I will not be recommending her to anyone or utilizing her services again. Please let me know if you have any other questions or would like more details.
Best,
Brides I no longer recommend Gessie for alterations.
