The Macedonian community in Toronto is very unique since it is very large and diverse. What I mean by diverse is that it is composed of those who immigrated during the Ottoman period, the division period, the Communist period, and now the Independent Macedonian Republic with Occupied Macedonian Territories where Macedonians have no civil, no freedom of religion and conscience, or indigenous rights. It was indeed the United Macedonian Organization of Canada that brought together these people that time and fate had parted. It was the united Macedonians that built the Churches, not one person but the Macedonian community. Churches require maintenance and the replenishment of parishioners. While United Macedonians brought the community together, it was the priests who kept the community together. They had a huge challenge keeping people together because many of the parishioners had been disconnected from the Macedonian Christianity for generations so many misunderstandings had to be overcome. Being that as is may people should have basic understanding of the nature and character of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, because it is unique:
The status and character of the Archbishopric of Ohrid and the Macedonian orthodox church are codified in the Bible :
1. Was created by God (ACTS 16 9-12).
2. Is one of the sources of Christianity and a model for other Bishoprics to use as an example. (1 SOLUNIANS 1:7-8)
3. Is universal and neutral, that is both Apostolic Christianity and Evangelical Christianity are recognized. ( MARK 9: 38-40) Recognizing that God works within and outside of the institution of the church or Apostolic succession and record.
4. Is divided into three autocepheleous ecclesiastical jurisdictions 1. The Archbishopric of Solun (Established 40 AD)
2. The Universal Patriarchate of Constantinople (Established 313 AD)
3. The Archbishopric of Ohrid, Patriarchate Justianan Prima (Established 535 AD)
The Archbishopric of Ohrid is NOT an Exarchate or state a self declared church or state declared, where the head Bishop does as he pleases, rules by decree.
The Archbishopric of Ohrid was reestablished between 1941-46 by declaring the Abolishment of the Archbishopric of Ohrid 1767 as illegal on the principle that no one has a right to negotiate or make agreements on its status or character, or jurisdictions. No one has the authority to change the character, status, or jurisdictions of a God created church, which was recognized by Imperial Roman autocepheleous special status decree.
