Dear Rules Committee,
I am writing to respectfully urge your support for the final passage of Senate Bill 197, a critical piece of legislation for Alabama’s food truck industry.
Senate Bill 197 establishes a streamlined, statewide permitting system by creating a single health department permit and a single fire permit recognized across all jurisdictions. This reform addresses a long-standing challenge faced by food truck operators who are currently required to obtain multiple permits in each locality where they operate. The existing system creates unnecessary administrative burdens, increases costs, and limits small business owners' ability to grow and serve communities efficiently.
By contrast, SB 197 promotes consistency, reduces redundancy, and supports economic development by allowing food trucks to operate more freely across the state while still maintaining public health and safety standards. This approach benefits not only business owners but also consumers who enjoy greater access to diverse, local food options.
Food trucks represent entrepreneurship, job creation, and innovation within Alabama’s hospitality sector. Simplifying the permitting process will strengthen these businesses and encourage further investment in our communities.
I respectfully ask that you support and advance Senate Bill 197 to final passage. Your leadership on this issue will have a meaningful and lasting impact on small businesses across Alabama.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
