The other day I read a post that said, “What a privilege it is to be embarrassed of your earlier work. Because it means you were brave enough to start.” That hit me hard. Because if you asked me 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have said I was brave. Off my rocker? Maybe. Fiscally irresponsible? Probably. Scared? Absolutely. But brave? Not a chance. And the first few events I flowered didn’t really help. If anything, they made my imposter syndrome worse. Because I knew what kind of work I wanted to create, and my skill level was not up to s***f. These days, when I look back at my former work, sometimes I cringe. But most of the time, I see the potential- the structures and skills I’d already started building. Those things, coupled with a bit of help from an amazing team of wedding vendors and F&B staff, and a serious commitment to improving, got me where I am today. So if you’re thinking about starting something new, but feeling a bit worried about not being good enough, let this be a sign. Do it scared.

Have you ever longed to do something with every fiber of your being, but you were afraid to take the risk? That’s how I felt about leaving my cozy-steady-paycheck-benefits-included-job to pursue Fleurish & Bloom full time. Then everything changed. Our childcare provider told us she was going back to work full time. At that point, our options were (1) send our sweet six month old daughter to daycare or (2) choose to view our predicament as a sign that it was time to make a change and take the leap. The leap would allow me to juggle F&B work during naptimes, evenings, and when my husband wasn’t on shift (thank goodness for a firefighter’s random schedule), while also focusing on mothering my sweet baby girl. Though I knew balancing new motherhood and growing a business would be difficult, the answer was clear: my family comes first. Option 2 hands down. Were there challenges? Absolutely (hello COVID)! But we weathered the storm, and never looked back. These days, my work schedule is far more consistent; I’m no longer flying solo (we’ve got a team of six designers who love flowers as much as I do); and we’re taking on 20 weddings a year rather than 5. But a few things remain the same: loving and caring for my family remains my first priority. A close second? My dedication to making your wedding flourish and bloom in the most spectacular ways.

If there’s one piece of advice I could give my wedding couples? Don’t source wedding decor yourself. Whether or not you’ve purchased online or in person, you’ll be required to store those decor items, figure out the best way to transport them to your wedding venue or wedding vendor to be prepped for and set up at your wedding. Once your wedding is over, you’ll be required to transport and store the items again, plus clean the items and figure out what you’re doing with the decor- will you sell the decor? Keep it? Why bother with all of the logistics when you’re already hiring someone who can handle it for you? Yes, you may pay slightly more than retail price for your rental items, but ultimately rentals eliminate an unnecessary wedding stress (planning your wedding is already stressful enough). Ultimately, the value and peace of mind rentals provide far exceeds saving a few dollars to DIY your wedding decor.

Ladies and gentlemen, multicolor bridesmaid dresses done right. When Gabi told our design team that she would be helping her bridesmaids choose their own dresses in a range of pastel colors that suited them, we were ecstatic! Not only did this decision speak to the gentle and thoughtful nature of Gabi’s personality (which meant we knew almost instantly that she was the right client for our team), but it challenged us to hone her floral recipes to perfection! We settled on some of our favorite pastel blooms in a wide variety of shades to seamlessly tie her wedding elements together, creating a dreamy yet joyful wedding aesthetic. The result? Well, we think the photos speak for themselves!

Can I share a brutally beautiful reality with you, friends? Being a mompreneur is no joke. I opened Fleurish & Bloom before marriage, before children, before my mid twenties brain could fathom what life would look like ten years down the line. Before I realized that quiet time with no plans was a luxury. Or that date nights would steadily disappear during the spring and autumn wedding seasons. Gone are the days of collapsing into bed after a long day in the studio, sleep replaced with homework to be checked and bedtime stories that need reading, lunches to be packed and dishes that need washing, clothes that needs laundering and toys to be put away. Yes, indeed, life is much busier these days. Busy and beautiful, exhausting and exhilarating, joyful and just…well, full. On my quietest days, you can still find me with a coffee in hand, but odds are it’s on the porch watching my littles play. And on my busiest days? Well- those go a little something like last weekend…

Did you know that 95% of Fleurish & Bloom’s wedding clients choose to rent vases, vessels, large structures and candleware through us? It’s true! We generally provide the bulk of client vessels unless you specifically requests guests be able to remove centerpieces from tables at the end of your reception. Why? A few reasons:

(1) Familiarity with our own vessels means our design team knows exactly how much product is necessary to fill the vessel, meaning we don’t have to over-order to create the centerpieces of your dreams - keeping you within your designated budget (don’t worry if you have your heart set on a vase not in our current rental inventory, when we do over-order, we always over deliver!)

(2) Our clients have access to an extensive rental inventory full of beautiful vessels and structures at a fraction of the retail price

(3) If a client has their heart set on a specific vase or vessel, we can usually add it to our rental inventory and (again) provide it to our clients at a fraction of retail price

(4) why worry about transporting and storing vessels before your wedding, and then transporting, cleaning, storing, and offloading purchased items after your wedding when we can do all of that for you?

When you book a full service package with F&B, our team arrives before your photographer to deliver their styling blooms for flat lays, as well as personal blooms like bouquets and boutonnières. During production, our team sets up all of your wedding spaces, staying through the end of cocktail hour to repurpose any ceremony blooms to your reception space. Then we return at the end of your reception to collect our rental items and strike large installs.
