It’s been a while since I have been inspired to write a poem, but while hiking today in Big Island, VA I just could not resist. Happy Spring! 🌿🍃🌱

Otter Creek

A chiffon of spores, moss, and lichen
Lightly drape the forest
In an electric green patchwork
Of leaves and wet, black bark.

The kerplop of a frog’s cannonball
Breaks the serenity of the bubbling Whispers of Otter Creek.

Plump and blush mountain laurels,
Uncoiling ferns and spongy soil
Are all around me.

As I listen to the white noise of the waterfall,
I clear my mind,
Watching my step as I firmly place my foot on a clean, slippery slate,
Everything begins again.
