HOW TO MAKE YOUR VALENTINE’S BOUQUET LAST 💘⬇️
So you received (or bought yourself) flowers for Valentine’s Day? Follow these 7 steps to ensure they last as long as possible!
1. TRIM THE STEMS
This encourages immediate uptake of water.
Cut on a slight angle with sharp scissors or snips a couple centimeters from the base of the flower.
3. CLEAN YOUR VASE
You want the vase to be clean enough to drink from - this ensures there is no lingering bacteria that could cause wilting.
3. FILL THE VASE PARTWAY WITH COLD WATER
Fresh water is the most hydrating for flowers and will ensure they drink as quickly as possible.
You want to fill it so that every stem is submerged. There is no need to fill to the top.
4. USE FLOWER FOOD
All Redolent bouquets will come with a small pack of preservative flower food. These solutions can extend your vase life up to 60%!
No need to empty the entire pack in the first go. Parsing out a small amount in the first few days will help.
5. KEEP THE VASE AWAY FROM DIRECT SUN, PRODUCE, OR PETS
Similarly to many house plants, you want the arrangement you’re displaying far away from any area that can experience major temperature fluctuations. Avoid direct sunlight, exterior doors, or vents.
Ripening fruit and vegetables emit ethylene gas. This is something we want to keep far away from our flowers.
This one may be obvious, but be sure to place flowers away from anywhere your pets have access!
6. REFRESH VASE WATER REGULARLY
I personally like to do this every day, but it’s best to keep an eye on it and replace with fresh water when discoloration is visible.
7. REMOVE BLOOMS AS THEY WILT
When you start to notice blossoms that are shriveling or falling off, carefully remove the stem from the vase and compost it if possible. 🌸
