Hi! If you are new here, welcome! My name is Mel, and I started Peace and Petals PGH in 2022 when I decided to set aside my counseling degree, put on a pair of gardening shoes (or no shoes), and pursue an adventure in cut flowers!

I received my undergrad degree in art and psychology, and later completed my Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling. After moving back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family, we had our second kid in 2019 and I decided to stay home for a bit to take care of our two children. During this time, my love for gardening grew as we slowly started turning our very basic yard into larger garden beds every year.

Pretty soon what was once just growing flowers for ourselves, turned into growing to share with others. Not only did we take pride in the flowers we grew, but we spent time researching and learning about more natural ways to grow crops, including soil health and biodiversity. We took the leap and started this business!

As we continue to grow, we also continue to learn about helping our environment by planting native meadows and garden beds to do our part to help local wildlife, while the birds and insects do their part by keeping our flowers happy. Last year we became Audubon Certified, which was really exciting!
