π§ ICE STORM CHECKLIST FOR CATTLE PRODUCERS...
Save this before the winter weather hits!

WATER
Break ice early & often
Check access 2x/day
Backup plan ready (tank, hose, generator)

FEED
Plan for 10β25% more hay in ice/wind
Feed best hay to thin cows, heifers, late-gestation cows
Add energy if hay quality is low (introduce slowly)

SHELTER
Set up windbreaks (trees, barns, hay bales)
Move cattle off open ridges
Give them a dry place to lay down

CALVING
Check more frequently during storms
Towels + warming supplies ready
Watch for frostbite (ears/teats)

SAFETY
Sand high-traffic areas (gates, water, feed)
Avoid forcing long walks on ice
Spread hay out to reduce slipping + fighting

EQUIPMENT & ACCESS
Fuel up now
Stage hay close to cattle
Clear paths to gates, water, and feed areas

Test generator + stock fuel

Pull early if cows go off feed/water
Be ready for mud + lameness after thaw
