We talk about legacy and family a lot here at Hidden Creek, but that's what goes with the territory. We are a space where people gather and join and celebrate, creating new connections, new invisible threads. Writing this high up in the air while traveling home from Illinois brings a new perspective to the reality of how significant that is.
Aunt Mary was a beautiful, strong thread that connected so many points of our family together, but not only family, community, her patients (she was a nurse practitioner). She was exceptional in every way. We were lucky enough to have her and uncle Gary stay at the venue whenever they came to Texas to travel with mom and dad. Chatting over a fire and a glass of wine we would tell them funny wedding stories, joyous ones and eye rolling ones.
But I wish I would've asked more questions about her history, to know more, but she never would've boasted about herself.
This loss leaves a hole, a feeling of grief that feels like it's caving in your chest.
But to mourn is to love.
The harder you love, the harder your grieve. So we will mourn Mary, and it will hurt for a long while, but those invisible threads she created for us will never go away.
We will be thinking about her during our wedding this weekend. We will be cherishing watching those new threads, weaving into a new family and friends, and we will celebrate that, and Mary, at the same time.
We love you.
