HOME RUN RANCH

Living in a small town is a blessing...you know almost everyone and there is a strong sense of community. It is exactly what we wanted for our family. We moved to Bells in August of 2016 and fell in love with the town, it’s people, and the sense of community here.

We have been involved in student ministry since 2014, and we quickly began to look for ways to serve in our new hometown. The one draw back to living in a small town is lack of activities for young people. Unfortunately, when there is not a lot for students to do, the activities they come up with can get them in trouble (drinking, drugs, etc.) One night after discussing it for months, we decided to combine our love for our community and our calling to student ministry to create a place where students could find something safe and fun to do.

We have some big plans for Home Run Ranch. Right now, we have billiards, fishing in a stocked pond, hiking trails on 33 acres, a 12 seat movie theatre, air hockey, a batting cage, ping pong, corn hole, shuffleboard, and basketball. We also host a Bible Study on Sunday nights that serves about 70 students in our living room. We address “hot topics” with teens based on Biblical truth and have recently developed a student lead music/worship team. We have also hosted small birthday parties, high school team/organization cookouts, family reunions, weekend retreats, and more. There are plans to teach basic cooking classes, general home repair classes, etc. We operate all of this out of our own pockets at the moment.

Our future plans include a lighted wiffleball field, a horshoe pit, and disc golf. We are also trying to fundraise to build a multipurpose building overlooking the wiffleball field. The building would include a kitchen area, bathrooms, a small stage, and a large open area for seating. As the number of students we serve continues to increase, we are quickly running out of room in our home for our classes and Bible Studies. This building would serve the students for those classes and possibly provide a way to make money through rental of the building and/or the wiffleball field to the public to sustain our activities and eventually award scholarships for higher education.
