When the assignment is Soul Train, you already know subtle is not invited. 😂

THE ROOM HAS TO MAKE SENSE

One thing experience has taught me:

You can spend a lot of money on an event and still have a room that doesn’t make sense.

More flowers won’t always fix it. A bigger backdrop won’t always fix it. More balloons definitely won’t always fix it. Sometimes the answer is editing.

Knowing what needs to be larger, what needs to disappear, where the eye needs to travel, and where the design needs breathing room. That’s one of the biggest lessons & differences experience has made in my work.

I’m no longer asking myself:
What else can I add?

I’m asking:
What does this room actually need?
And sometimes, that one question changes the entire design. Because I have definitely started with one look and ended with something totally different.

What My Clients Taught Me – Lesson #4

When I first started this journey, I thought people hired me because I could design beautiful events.

Over the years, I've learned that's only part of the story.

My clients remember how I made them feel.

They remember being heard.
They remember being respected.
They remember knowing someone genuinely cared about their celebration as much as they did.

One thing I hear over and over is,
"You're so professional."
"Thank you for making this process easy."
"You treated us with so much respect."

To me, that's one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.

Beautiful events can be recreated.

But the way you make people feel while they're trusting you with one of the biggest moments of their lives that's what lasts.

So yes, I'll always strive to create beautiful spaces.

But I'll never stop being the kind of designer who leads with kindness, serves with excellence, and treats every client with the respect they deserve.

Because that's the legacy I want Imperious Celebrations & Décor to leave behind.

One conversation changed the way I do business forever.

There was a client I was convinced was going to book.

The conversation was great. The vision was exciting. Everything felt like a perfect fit.

I was so excited that I started purchasing items before the contract was signed and before a payment had been made.

Then, One conversation changed the way I do business forever.

There was a client I was convinced was going to book.

The booking never happened.

That moment taught me a lesson I still carry with me today.

Excitement should never replace process.

Today, every consultation gets the same energy, every client gets the same professionalism, and every event begins the same way with a signed contract and a confirmed booking.

Not because I expect the worst.

But because great businesses are built on systems, not assumptions.

Sometimes the lessons that cost us the most become the foundation of our growth.

And for that lesson, I'm grateful.

One event taught me something I'll never forget.

There was a celebration where every conversation leading up to the event was positive. The family loved the design, the planning process, and the final setup. Everything came together just as we had envisioned.

The event itself was beautiful.

But afterward, one person found something to complain about even while saying the décor was beautiful and the food was good. Ironically, she wasn't even the one who had booked the event.

That day reminded me of something I carry with me in every event I design:

You can give your absolute best, pour your heart into every detail, exceed expectations and still not please everyone.

And that's okay.

My responsibility isn't to chase everyone's approval.

My responsibility is to serve my clients with excellence, integrity, and care.

So today, I don't measure success by the opinions of the loudest voice in the room.

I measure it by the trust my clients place in me, the joy they experience, and knowing I gave my very best.

That lesson made me a better designer... and an even better business owner.

This week will be story week!!

The wedding that changed how I design forever

My very first wedding had over 200 guests.

Like many brides, she wanted to save money by taking the DIY route. She was excited to create some of the décor herself, and because I wanted to help make her vision possible, I said yes.

Looking back, that wedding taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my career.

Never ask a bride to be the designer on her wedding day.

A bride should be soaking in every moment—not worrying about whether centerpieces are finished, candles are placed correctly, or décor looks the way she imagined.

Your wedding day should be about making memories, not making decorations.

That experience shaped the way I serve my clients today.

When you trust Imperious Celebrations & Décor, my goal is simple: I want you fully present for every smile, every hug, every tear, and every dance.

Because while I can always create beautiful décor

I can never give you back a moment you missed.

That's why I do what I do.
