You'll put on the trademark white gloves and examing centuries-old collection pieces up close and out of storage, including the Verplanck family Bible, Victorian-era men and women's clothing, and historic military artifacts.

Built in the 18th century, Mount Gulian’s Dutch Barn is one of the rare remaining structures of its kind in the Hudson Valley. From storing harvests centuries ago to hosting unforgettable modern celebrations, its hand-hewn timbers have stood the test of time.

Whether you’re stepping inside for a historic tour or dancing under the bistro lights at a summer wedding, the warmth and character of this space are felt the second you walk through the doors.

When children played in Revolutionary-era America, their toys were crafted from wood, bone, paper, and ribbon. Mount Gulian’s collection of historic toy reproductions offers a fascinating peek into childhood centuries ago!

Graces: A popular outdoor game for young girls designed to encourage grace, posture, and coordination using wooden hoops and ribbons.

Ball and Cup: A classic test of hand-eye coordination (that is way trickier than it looks!).

Playing Cards: Colonial card games looked a bit different back then—noticeably missing numbers on the faces.

During the Revolutionary War, Mount Gulian served as the headquarters for Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, Inspector General of the Continental Army. It was right here on these grounds that crucial drill manuals were drafted and military discipline was transformed.

Don’t miss your chance to visit the grounds where history happened. Reserve your tour date by visiting the link in our bio.

If you’ve walked through the Mount Gulian dining room recently, you might have noticed a wonderful new portrait on the wall.

This piece depicts Virginia Eliza Darby and her husband, William Edward Verplanck, and was painted in 1880 (the year of their wedding) by Virginia’s father, Henry Darby.

A massive thank you to their great-grandson, Peter Verplanck, for generously donating this beautiful family heirloom back to the estate.

Come see it for yourself on your next summer tour. Make your reservation today!
