I want to tell a fun story today about the memories the fair brings to us, and you never know what may happen each day.
This year I tried a project called “Faces of the fair.” My goal was to catch regular people, doing regular things, at the fair! Capturing all those all day moments of people loving the fair, not just events.
I had to do this in between shows, programs, horse races, 4-H meetings I had to be at so to be honest I was in a hurry snapping photos in the 7.31 minutes I had.
While taking a picture for some reason after taking the photo and walking away, yelling for my twins to keep following me I heard, “ I don’t think she recognized you.” I was already several steps away before this registered and I turned around to look.
As I turned around and looked, I saw I had actually just snapped a picture of Mary. Mary was my very dear aunt who was married to my grandmothers brother 🖤 As a child I spent every weekend in the summer with her at my grannys. However as time has passed, so has everyone else. My granny and all of her siblings but one are gone now. When her husband passed, I think haven’t seen her for almost 20 years. The only communication we have had is exchanging Christmas cards, with hand written, I ❤️ yous in them.
I paused, sobbed, hugged, and loved every minute.
On this chilly Saturday morning, I can’t help but think about all the amazing moments the Carlton County Fair has given me.
