3 Days until Old World and the dead rise.
Across Faedrun this has become more and more apparent over the years. The dead no longer stay dead, they rise. And when they rise they walk and when they walk they fight.
Worse still, it is not a bite, not the spread of disease, or the work of some sorcerer standing over the body that causes the dead to rise. Oh no, they seemingly rise on their own, independent of external action upon the co**se.
Each year their army grows becoming more numerous as they cut down the very soldiers who go to face them. The warriors on the battlefields of the May'Kar desert know that should they fall they too shall eventually rise and become the very thing they sought to kill. They will seek out and kill their friends, the people who they once served alongside of. They will slaughter their families if given the chance. They will rot, and their very stench and visage will bring horror to all who have the displeasure of looking upon them. Their only hope, should they find themselves bleeding out alone on the battlefield, is the wish that their soul will not be trapped within their co**se, forced to watch as they murder what they love. Unable to scream or move or do anything to control the body that once belonged to them and now belongs to the Queen in Crimson.
Do their ears still hear? Do their eyes still see? They will not kneel to the Banshee's scream yet their pursuit, once they've found you, is relentless. Do their grunts and groans express the pain and torture of their never-ending life after death or is it merely reflex that causes them to breathe and cry out and growl? Much is unknown about these undead even to this day. However, what we can know is that they must be some unholy plague upon Faedrun as they are weak to magic of the Divine.
Will you find yourself amongst their ranks at old world? Will they take your life and force you to rise as they have? Or will you live to fight again?
