There’s a reason Artscape has been a Baltimore tradition for over 40 years — it’s art, culture, and community all in one place, completely free. America’s largest FREE outdoor arts festival is happening THIS WEEKEND in Baltimore.

The Roots and Stephanie Mills are headlining this year. As well as other amazing local bands - personally excited to see Soroche on Saturday!

As a member of the Create Baltimore Community Advisory Committee, I’m personally welcoming everyone to join us this weekend at War Memorial Plaza. The city comes alive with live performances, stunning installations, and local food from Maryland’s best vendors. Come experience why it’s one of the best festivals in the country. 🙌

As always this 5 de Mayo — show love to the local restaurants, artists, and creatives hosting events in your community this week. 🇲🇽

They are the real celebration. They carry the culture year-round, not just when it’s trendy.

Before you book a reservation or buy a ticket, ask yourself: does this place show up for us beyond the holiday? If not, take your coins elsewhere. 💵

Find your local 5 de Mayo events and go support! Drop recommendations below 👇

Big news, low-key energy! ✨

I’ve been tapped for the inaugural Create Baltimore (BOPA) Community Advisory Committee — the first one ever. No pressure.

Create Baltimore is Baltimore City’s official arts council, championing artists of all kinds and keeping the creative scene alive and funded. They also run a little thing called Artscape — only America’s largest free outdoor arts festival since 1982 (The Roots are headlining this year FYI) and had a chance to be a part of their ProjectArstcape two years ago 💃🏻

Our committee’s job? Advising Create Baltimore on community needs, equity, cultural representation, and inclusive creative direction — so that everything they do reflects the full diversity of Baltimore.

And look — I can’t talk about this without getting real for a second. I’ve been in Baltimore almost 8 years, and from DAY ONE it was the art community that wrapped its arms around me. This isn’t just a title. This is my love letter back to a city that chose me first. Year one. First committee. Let’s build.

A toda madre.

Los tourists in Mexico are going to be okay…

And that’s not by luck. It’s by design.
Back in 1974, FONATUR formalized a very specific model: build resort destinations that funnel American tourist dollars into Mexico—without requiring those tourists to actually encounter Mexico.

Purpose-built beach cities.
Master-planned hotel zones.
Airports that drop you minutes from an all-inclusive.
You land. You shuttle. You check in. You stay inside the frame.

You’re trained to see the infinity pool, the beach, the curated excursion, the “safe” corridor. And anything outside that frame fades out—the neighborhoods where workers live, the long bus rides to staff the resorts, the poverty that makes the labor affordable in the first place.

Modern tourism is about containment. It creates a controlled version of a country and calls it the country.

And here’s the uncomfortable part: the resort and the cartel aren’t two separate maps. They grow out of the same soil.

The same structural poverty that keeps resort wages low makes cartel recruitment easier. The same regional inequality that makes gated luxury possible leaves other communities with few options.

One economy runs on service and tips. The other runs on extraction and coercion. But they are responses to the same system.

This isn’t chaos. It’s structure.

It’s colonialism updated—now with wristbands and buffet lines.

So yes, los tourists will be fine.

Because the entire model was built to make sure they are.
