Meet Barbara Harrell of Mitchell County!

She and her family operate their farm, and Barbara has always served as the farmwife and support to her husband. She is a retired school teacher.

In addition to her work on the farm, Barbara is an active leader in her community—serving as chair of her county Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee, Agri Tourism Committee, and Chamber of Commerce for Blue Ridge Christian News

Today we had the opportunity to share some love with the residents of the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine. We brought them wet wipes, colored ball point pens, regular ball point pens, colored pencils, inspirational journals, lip balm, adult coloring books, word search books, cookies, snack cakes, lotion, fruit drinks, and apple juice. We are blessed to have this wonderful opportunity to share with these wonderful folks!

It is that time of year again. We have begun the process of obtaining sponsors for our Cow Patty Bingo which will be held at the annual Rhododendron Festival in Bakersville in June. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for Scholarships for young adults preparing to go to college to major in an agricultural based field. Last year, due to the very generous donations received from folks like you, we were able to award scholarships to FOUR very worthy young adults! Please consider contributing to and being a part of this wonderful opportunity. Thank you!

Mitchell County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Scholarship!

APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BY MARCH 30TH

The Scholarship
• Will be awarded to a College Age student recently accepted or attending a College/University or community College, intent on pursuing a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally related field
• Is Valued up to $2000 for one year
• 1st ½ payable to the institution upon documentation of acceptance and enrollment
• 2nd ½ payable after completion of first semester with 2.0 GPA or higher and meeting continued eligibility requirements.
• Requires applicant to come before board for a report at the end of semester
• Preference will be given to Mitchell County Farm Bureau members (memberships are $25.00 per year)

Eligibility
• Pursuing a career in agriculture or an agriculturally related field
• Satisfactory grades (2.0 GPA Required)
• Leadership potential
• Good Character (Must not have any convictions on misdemeanor or felony charges, whether by trial or plea agreement.)
• Financial Need

Applications
Are available in Mitchell High School Guidance office or in either of the Mitchell County Farm Bureau offices.

Must be completed and submitted by March 30 (Incomplete applications will not be considered)

Applications must be returned to either Mitchell County Farm Bureau Office.

The recipient will be notified within 2 weeks of interview process.
