LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PRICE OF FLOWERS

I share this message because someone just last week said to me that florist are price gouging. I promise that’s not true, most likely we have done lots of work behind the scenes that we didn’t even charge for.

I see people all the time saying, “Florists are getting too expensive.”

I completely understand wanting to get the most for your money. But sometimes I think people forget just how much the cost of EVERYTHING has changed.

Take $60 in 1980. That same $60 has the purchasing power of roughly $240 today.

Think about that.

The farmer growing the flowers pays more for fertilizer, fuel, equipment, electricity, labor and everything else it takes to grow and harvest those flowers.

Then the florist buys those flowers at a higher price.

We also pay more for containers, ribbon, floral foam, greenery, packaging, coolers, delivery vehicles, fuel, insurance, rent, utilities and labor.

And unlike a lot of products, flowers are perishable. If we don’t sell them, we can’t put them back on the shelf next month.

It’s the same reason a steak, a chicken, a gallon of gas or a vehicle doesn’t cost what it did in 1980.

Prices didn’t go up because florists decided one day to charge more just for the fun of it.

OUR COSTS WENT UP.

And when our costs go up, our prices have to go up if we want to stay in business.

When you buy an arrangement from a local florist, you’re not just paying for a few flowers in a vase. You’re paying for the flowers, the container, supplies, design time, labor, overhead, delivery and the experience of someone who knows how to turn those flowers into something beautiful.

So before saying, “Flowers cost too much,” remember this:

Your florist is paying more too.

We don’t control what the farmer charges us. We don’t control what suppliers charge us. We don’t control the price of fuel, rent, insurance or labor.

We simply have to make enough to keep our doors open and continue serving our communities.

And honestly, your local florist would LOVE for flowers and supplies to cost less.

Because we’re customers too.

Support your local florist. Call us directly, talk to us about your budget, and let us create something beautiful for you.

We’re not trying to take advantage of anyone.

We’re trying to stay in business.
