A recent excursion to the Baltimore Museum of Industry took us to a couple of beautiful exhibits! The first is an ode to the Neighborhood Corner Bar, a staple of Baltimore and many other cities, but rarely recognized for its indispensable role in creating community.
"Most bars offered free lunch to any paying drinker. The service built a loyal clientele and helped appease temperance advocates."
Hmmm, maybe an ode to Door County corner bars should be part of next year's fest?!?
But another exhibit highlighted an invention Bawlimorians can take pride in β the world's first disposable Standard Bottle Cap! Invented by William Painter in Baltimore in 1892 for the Crown Cork and Seal Company.
The museum is a great one if you find yourself in the Baltimore area, and so are a lot of the city's great corner bars!
