Sometimes we wonder why it is so important to study, and get as much experience as possible. As a transfer student at Florida International University, with a major in Hospitality management, and a minor in event planning, I realized that without the experience, nothing else is worth it. The more the better, and that is why I take every chance that I have to get a new certificate, even though I only have one, which is a certificate in American Lodging and Operations. This certificate is a plus for me when looking for a job.

If you don’t know how to start your small business as an event planner, here are some tips to start. First of all try to get a Certificate that assures that you are able to plan/create an event, for example The CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) which is one of the most recognized certificates for the industry. Second, you will also need to know some of the definitions; such as, Attrition Rate, Corkage Charge, RFP (Request for Proposal), and some more. Third you will have to learn the importance of being within the range of the budget, also another thing that you will learn is to accommodate to the client necessities and requests. To conclude I can say that at first it may look difficult, but once you start ill be easier every step of the way.
