Where: NMB Library Plaza (NE 164TH ST and 16TH AVE, North Miami Beach FL, 33162)
Time: 5:30 pm

A sky of more than 250 crocheted umbrellas and 100 colorful hula hoops is coming to North Miami Beach. All pieces were handmade over five months by more than 50 senior residents at the NMB Library, each one inspired by their stories, cultures, and creativity.

Led by artist and anthropologist Alicia María Vallejo, Dancing Umbrellas is the second annual installation of the Connecting and Painting Community program. This chapter continues the tradition of celebrating community through color, craft, and collaboration.

Some of our most meaningful projects begin with the people who will experience them. For this public art installation, our Art Director Alicia María Vallejo led a beautiful collaboration with the community, inviting neighbors to crochet, share stories, and be part of something that now lives in their own public space.

Every piece, every color, every stitch carries the hands and hearts of those who made it, turning the installation into more than art, it’s a celebration of connection, creativity, and community. 🤍

🎨 The Art Affair — Third Thursday Series

An evening immersed in art and creativity. 💥
From guided canvas painting workshops and henna art to live music, interactive games, and a Van Gogh–inspired photo moment, every element was designed to invite participation and spark joy. Guests also continued celebrating Surfside’s 90th anniversary with our custom-made photobooth ✨
