✨Artist Spotlight✨

Julissa is a Washington D.C.-based Zouk and Lambada dancer and instructor.
With a background in Classical Ballet and Modern Dance (Horton technique), Julissa discovered Zouk in 2012 at the New York Zouk Festival. Since then, she has traveled globally as a solo artist, collaborating with artists worldwide to share her passion for Zouk and Lambada.
Through extensive training and teaching, Julissa continues to refine her craft, bringing a unique sense of expression and flow to the dance community. As a dedicated instructor, she aims to empower followers by emphasizing self-expression and personal power within partner work. Her mission is to inspire followers to find their own agency and self-control over their bodies, allowing them to unlock a deeper sense of flow and presence in their partner dance.

Kuna Malik Hamad discovered Brazilian Zouk in 2013 in an unexpected way—through the lens of his camera. What began as documenting the dance quickly turned into a deep passion, leading him to travel the world filming major Zouk congresses while also studying with some of the most respected instructors in the scene at the time, including Kim Rottier, Bruno Galhardo, Ry’El & Jessica the Unicorn, and Brenda & Anderson. His films helped popularize the now-common format of moving around the dancers to immerse viewers in the circularity and feeling of the dance. Since then, Kuna has logged over *8,000 hours of social dancing* and visited nearly *100 dance communities worldwide*, developing a strong reputation for his connection, musicality, and thoughtful approach to leading. As a teacher, he is known for *breaking complex ideas down into clear, practical concepts* that help dancers improve their technique and confidence on the social floor. While he teaches internationally, he especially loves teaching and growing his local community at *District Zouk in Washington, DC,* and remains deeply passionate about social dancing, connection, and helping dancers become more adaptable, expressive, and present with their partners.

2025 DJ World Champion
Fab is an internationally acclaimed DJ and a key figure in the Brazilian Zouk scene. He began his career in 2006 spinning tribal house in Rio de Janeiro and evolved with the industry, mastering vinyl, CDJs, and digital controllers.
After discovering Zouk in 2007, Fab immersed himself not only as a DJ but also as a dancer and instructor, developing a deep understanding of the music’s connection to movement.
He is the creator of several well-known Zouk events, including Cremozouk in Rio de Janeiro, Zouk Journey in San Francisco, and The Chill Experience in Miami. After living in Rio his entire life, he moved to Miami in 2024, and then to San Jose, California in 2025, with the dream of helping grow the West Coast Zouk scene.
With nearly two decades of experience, Fab is now recognized as one of the leading Zouk DJs in both Brazil and the United States. He’s celebrated for his musical versatility, deep knowledge of dance, and charismatic presence behind the decks.
His sets are known for their creativity, energy, and intuitive connection to the dance floor—qualities that make him a favorite among dancers and organizers worldwide.

DJ Safado (Houston, Texas) is a Brazilian Zouk DJ known for blending multiple genres including Afro, R&B, and world music to create an intoxicating late-night dance floor experience. DJing since 2023, Safado has already played in seven countries and multiple cities across the United States. His specialty is curating deep, sensual sets with an almost aphrodisiac energy—perfect for the late-night hours when the connection between music and movement becomes electric.

DJ Ginga
Throughout his entire life, Ian’s number one passion has been music. He has played multiple instruments over the years including piano, sax, steel pan, vocal, and congas. Performing music was his outlet for expressing his emotions. In later years, dancing and deejaying would take over as his primary outlets for artistic expression. Ian was introduced to the dance world in 2008 while meeting some musician friends at a Latin night at a local bar. He dove into the Latin dance world hard and trained in both Salsa and Bachata nonstop. It wasn’t until 5 years later that he was introduced to the world of Kizomba. Having grown up in a Caribbean household, the music and dance spoke to his soul and slowly pulled him away from the Latin scene. He began to actively seek out Kizomba instruction across the country and soon became one of the early pioneers of Kizomba in Indiana. However, there wasn’t any Zouk in Indiana at the time, so he had to travel to other states, sometimes driving up to 7 hours, just to train this new passion of his. In 2019, he finally made the move to Austin, TX where there was already a strong Zouk community. He continued to train in Zouk and began to deejay at local Zouk socials.
Ian is a well-rounded dance instructor and deejay. He brings his passion for musical performance and movement to the deejay stand to create mixes that speak to you. His Lambada mixes will have you high off of Brazilian energia, while his Zouk mixes will have you grooving all night long. He can’t wait to mix for you and take you on a musical journey.
