When Purpose Is Paused: Reflections on Service, Recovery, and Returning to What I Love
This Memorial Day, I’ve found myself reflecting on service, sacrifice, and appreciation for the ordinary parts of life we often assume will always be there. I’m remembering family members who served, and also feeling especially aware of how quickly life can change.
As spring wedding season comes to a close, I’m grieving more than the physical challenges of recovery. One of the hardest parts has been missing the opportunity to stand with couples on one of the happiest days of their lives and officiate the weddings that bring me so much purpose and joy. Along with that loss has come the reality of lost income at a time when medical bills, transportation to appointments, and recovery expenses continue to grow.
Physical therapy has begun — a hopeful step forward, but one that has also brought new pain as I work to regain movement in my ankle. If you’ve been following this journey, thank you for every message, encouragement, and act of support. And if you’re willing to help, one of the most meaningful things you can do is share our GoFundMe with your network. Every share helps carry us through this season and brings us one step closer to getting back to the work and life I love.
