For many years Sat'n Spurs had a Cowboy Preacher we recommended named Jack Blease. He has since retired but he was a poet and often used his poems during his service. This one is, I think, a special one called "Marriage Pardners":
They asked me, "what's a pardner?"
Well the best that I can do,
IS try to explain it the way
The old timers do.
They say that in the past,
When just getting by was tough,
Your Pardner was there
When the going got rough.
More than a friend,
Though he was that, too.
He was there all the time
To help you get through.
He stood right beside you
In good times and bad.
Laughed when you were happy,
Shared a tear when you were sad.
If life got you down,
Or when you got sick,
He'd lift up your spirits
Or doctor you quick.
So here we are gathered,
To hitch up you two,
And I've got some wishes
To give both of you.
May you always be pardners,
Lovers and friends.
Trusting and sharing,
So love never ends.
May the brands that your're placing
On each others hearts,
Be as clear years from now
As they are at the start.
May your trails all be straight ones,
Your valleys be few.
Just one more thing,
and then I'll be through.
There's an old cowboy blessing
That I wish you two.
May the good Lord always take
A likin' to you.
