🛋️🛋️🛋️ 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Being one of less than 10 black children in the school, I had to navigate not fitting in from the start. Black culture wasn’t in the mainstream yet. I had to wait for hours, while watching heavy metal videos, just to catch a Michael Jackson video on MTV. I spoke too proper when I was with my cousins (they used to call me cheesy) 😩🤣
In my Kindergarten Christmas performance, I was the firefly that helped light the way to find where Jesus was going to make his debut to the world, singing “This Little Light of Mine”. I kept adding “Whoaaa, Whoaa” after every refrain of the chorus because I was going to show out and not play small. I did my big one at this performance and the next year when I sang “Man in the Mirror” with my stretch sparkle glove and plaid uniform skirt on in the talent show. I was never too shy to shine.
I’m now the grown version of that little girl on a mission to shine that light, her way, every where she steps. Whether it’s on the 1s and 2s or offering a way for people to start their story in love, instead of in debt at , strutting is a must
Thank you and for giving me this opportunity to even be in the same space with you and the phenomenal guests and audience that I can soak up gems and network with. One band, one sound in a one room, on a mission, to elevate their brands and change their lives.
