WHEN FEELINGS AND TRUTH DIFFER

Trusting God Through Our Emotions

Foundation Scriptures:
Romans 12:2 • Psalm 62:8 • Philippians 4:6–8

Feelings Are Real—But They Are Not Always the Whole Story

God invites us to bring our emotions to Him, examine our assumptions, and respond with wisdom. We can be honest about what we feel while allowing Scripture to guide what we believe and do.

10 Reminders for Difficult Emotions

Feeling rejected?
Ask for clarification before assuming rejection. Your worth is not determined by someone else’s response.

Feeling like a failure?
A mistake does not define your life. Learn, make amends, and receive God’s grace.

Feeling afraid?
Pause and examine the situation. Pray for wisdom and respond to real danger without being ruled by imagined outcomes.

Feeling unloved?
Love may be expressed in different ways. Communicate your needs and notice faithful acts of care.

Feeling guilty?
Ask whether you have truly done wrong or are simply uncomfortable with someone’s disappointment. Confess genuine sin and release false guilt.

Feeling inadequate?
Another person’s gifts do not diminish yours. Faithfully develop what God has entrusted to you.

Feeling hopeless?
Bring your disappointment to God. Take the next faithful step and remember that hope does not require pretending everything is easy.

Feeling condemned?
Bring your struggles into the light. Receive forgiveness, seek accountability, and take practical steps toward change.

Feeling abandoned by God?
Your feelings may change, but God’s faithfulness does not. Pray honestly and remain connected to Scripture and caring believers.

Feeling threatened by correction?
Listen before defending yourself. Healthy correction should restore and help you grow—not humiliate or mistreat you.

Practice This Week

Choose one situation and write:

What I feel: Name the emotion honestly.
What I know: Separate facts from assumptions.
What Scripture teaches: Read the passage in context.
How I will respond: Choose one wise, loving action.

Reflection Question

Which feeling most often influences your decisions? How could God’s Word help you respond differently?

Prayer

Father, thank You for caring about everything we feel. Help us recognize our emotions without rushing to conclusions. Renew our minds through Your Word. Give us courage, humility, and confidence in Your love. Guide our thoughts, words, and actions through Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
