We spent last week at The Don CeSar, and the highlight was watching our team bid against each other – real gavel, an auctioneer – for things like strategic thinking, leadership, and communication.

You learn a lot about people when they have to spend to get what they want. What we learned: the traits we paid the most for are the same ones our clients tell us they hired us for. We value them at exactly the price they do.

We also dug into how each of us approaches a problem, imagined every worst-case scenario we could think of so we can head them off, and mapped where we want this team to be in 2029.

Great food, questions that actually got us talking, and a sail around St. Pete.

The point wasn't the week. The point was everything that comes after it.

I’m thrilled to announce that Tim Barrett, CMP has been named President of DSME (Destination South Meetings + Experiences).

This announcement is especially meaningful as Tim is also celebrating his 10-year anniversary with DSME.

While the title is new, Tim’s leadership is anything but. For years, he has been the driving force behind DSME’s strategy, business development, reputation, and continued growth. A respected leader, true icon in the MICE industry and friend, Tim has helped shape not only our company but also the experiences we create for our clients and partners.

Today’s announcement simply makes official what so many have already known - Tim has been the key to our company's success - leading with experience, vision, and humor all along.

On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free - more than two years after emancipation had already become law. Word had simply never reached them.

That's what Juneteenth commemorates: not just freedom declared, but freedom finally delivered. It's a day of celebration, reflection, and remembering how long that day was in coming.

Today, we honor it.
