There are works that ask to be viewed, and works that ask to be experienced. Umbral by Paula Cortazar is one of them.

Join us for an intimate viewing tomorrow at 6:30pm as we step inside the world behind the work, featuring exclusive studio footage and conversations with Gabriel Choto and Paula Cortazar as they share the process, ideas, and inspiration that brought pieces like Umbral to life.

We're honored to announce that Umbral will also be traveling with us to the Hamptons Fine Art Fair this summer, where it will be presented as part of Memento and Alday Hunken’s booth.

Before it heads north, we're inviting our community to experience the story behind the piece up close.

Limited seating available for the screening.

We're drawn to works that hold contradictions. In Agua, Paula Cortazar transforms dense black marble into something unexpectedly fluid. The surface ripples like water caught in motion, reminding us that change leaves its mark on everything, including stone.

Make an appointment with us to see her stone works in person for the Held Traces exhibit.

[Artist Spotlight] The Held Traces exhibit, for Gabriel Tendai Choto ( ) is a meditation on stillness, healing, and emotional acceptance. Through stripped-back compositions and suspended figures, Choto explores the weight of unresolved experiences and the quiet courage it takes to confront them.

Moving between loss, intimacy, vulnerability, and renewal, the works invite us to reflect on what it means to remain present with ourselves. Rather than longing for what is missing, Choto’s paintings remind us that fulfillment begins when we embrace what is.

Gabriel Tendai Choto

Featured piece: Tethered to the Present

A figure pauses, held in a moment that feels both quiet and uncertain, neither moving forward nor turning back.

In Tethered to the Present, Choto reflects on stillness as a space of decision; something can shift simply by staying and allowing the present moment to fully arrive.

Choto's painting sits within a broader body of work in the [Held Traces exhibit] that outlines a path from disconnection toward healing and where acceptance begins not in movement, but in stillness.

About the Artist: Gabriel Tendai Choto, ( ) born in 1995 in Harare, Zimbabwe, and raised in Bradford, currently lives and works in West Yorkshire, England. After completing his Diploma in Art and Design at Leeds Arts University (formerly Leeds College of Art) in 2012, Choto earned a BAFA in Drawing from Camberwell College of Arts (UAL), London, in 2014. He recently completed an MFA at Central Saint Martins in London, UK.
