Porch-sitting, garden-growing, outdoor-lounging weather has officially arrived in Atlanta—and we couldn’t be happier!🌿⭐️

Inside our November 2019 issue, landscape architect John Howard sited a backyard’s octagonal folly on axis with the home’s library. Recently planted, Howard designed the gardens to look well established. For the potting shed, architect William B. Litchfield drew inspiration from Bunny Mellon’s whimsical greenhouse at Oak Spring Farm in Virginia. Vintage lumber lines the interior walls while exterior lattice screens allow for vines to frame this charming spot.

New construction that feels like cherished heritage🖼️✨

A collaborative decision was made to maintain the original footprint but pursue a complete rebuild to achieve the architectural integrity and livability the clients desired. The vision between architect and designer centered on creating spaces that would transcend trends. This restraint guided every selection, from the wallpaper anchoring the formal dining room to the carefully composed kitchen with its plaster hood and marble backsplash. Perhaps most telling is the custom 32-foot runner in the main gallery, which the designer created by pulling colors from throughout the home.

Spaces can feel so empty and lonely once Christmas decor is removed! I’m leaving my wreath without the bow, filling in pots with dried bits of magnolia I used elsewhere, limelight hydrangea I still haven’t pruned, sticks I hold onto from designs past, and gifted twiggy wreaths and grasses from friends that know I will find uses for eventually💚🤎

Finally ready for Christmas with a wreath on the door♥️

No greenery garland this year! Made a giant crushed red velvet bow and added lit trees to the planters. But help me decide! Does the door need something? A wreath, a swag?
