REAL WEDDING // Abby & Quin​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This post has been a long time coming because it was hard to know what to write about my absolutely gorgeous, stunning cousin Abby. Abby was the most beautiful bride imaginable at her April wedding to Quin at Ma Maison in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Abby wore a classic, 50s-inspired ball gown by , which she accented with a two-tier, horsehair-trim veil. (If you have ever needed confirmation that a veil can transform a bridal look, look no further!)

The team at Southern Love Creative did a wonderful job capturing the beauty and joy of Abby & Quin's day. Their film photos are fantastic!

Abby, I love you, and it was an honor to be part of this important moment in your life. I know that Alice would have loved your dress as much as we all did, and she would have been so proud of you.

What will your dress do? // Sustainability 🌏🌱🤍​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​At A Day in June, we believe in supporting both our local and global communities. To us, that means a business model that embodies sustainable practices. ADIJ makes centering ecological sustainability a priority in order to show our community members we believe a brighter future is possible [for our children]. 🌅

Our collection of wedding dresses have ALL already been produced. That means that there is no additional environmental impact from your purchase, unlike made-to-order gowns. Our gowns limit the environmental effects of textile overproduction and waste.

Most of the processes used in the [mass-produced] garment industry are energy-intensive and reliant on fossil fuels. Any gown from ADIJ’s collection won't further harm our invaluable [precious? priceless?] ecosystem and can be donated back to us for reuse after your special day, further contributing to your [own] role in helping the environment. ♻️

If you’re looking for a sign to have that destination wedding in Italy you’ve been considering, you’ve found it! Our bride Addie was absolutely radiant at her wedding to Oliver at the in Tuscany.

Addie chose the gorgeous Emmeline gown by , which has been a firm ADIJ favorite since the day we opened. The dreaminess of this fully beaded Alencon lace wedding dress lent itself perfectly to an idyllic occasion in the European country. Addie topped off her look with a waltz-length veil trimmed in Venetian lace, and it was the perfect complement to her gown.

VERA WANG // Happy 75th birthday to the legendary, iconic, [insert your favorite superlative] bridal designer Vera Wang, who revolutionized the industry when she began designing and selling bridal attire in 1990. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This ad, which was featured in bridal magazines in 1998, showcases one of our all-time favorite Vera Wang designs. There was a brief period in the late '90s where blue was trending (as it is right now -- everything old is new again!), and this dress is a lovely example of the use of color in bridal fashion. Wang has never shied away from color in a bridal look, and we love her for it. In fact, she was quoted in the December 1990 issue of Vogue as saying that she was "dying to do an all-black wedding dress," she just "hadn't found the client for it." It's safe to say that she's found many thousands of the right clients for her modern, fashionable, and sometimes colorful designs in the ensuing years.

JUNE 26 // It seems to come faster and faster every year, but today is June 26, so it's time for my annual June 26 post. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This picture was taken moments after the Supreme Court decided Obergefell v. Hodges, which gave Sarah and me the right to get legally married in Georgia.

The reasons that people choose to get married -- or not -- are many and varied. My marriage is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I am grateful every day for the brave people, known and unknown, who fought for this important right. I don't know if I would have had the courage to do so, but what I DO know is that everything good I have in my life (including A Day in June!), I have because of Sarah.

Thanks, as always, go to for capturing this important moment in my life. (Although I wish the editors at the AJC had chosen a caption that did NOT describe me as "breaking down," I am still very glad to have this photo!)

Here at A Day in June, we’re continuing to celebrate Pride Month by donating to some of our favorite organizations that support LGBTQIA+ people in all stages of life. Today, we’d like to highlight the work of .n.found.youth and , two organizations that dedicate their resources to helping LGBTQIA+ youth and elders. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Lost-n-Found Youth is a local Atlanta nonprofit organization that seeks to end homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth. SAGE is a national organization devoted to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ elders. Both organizations are aligned with ADIJ’s values and mission of collaboration as a means to make the world a better place.

We couldn’t work toward this goal without the amazing contributions of YOU, our incredible clients. We love you!

Juneteenth // ❤️💛💚​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Today we commemorate the legal end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, a historic liberation took place, emancipating the enslaved Black Americans that remained in captivity past the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is celebrated as a symbol of freedom and a reminder of our commitment to justice in America.

In an effort to honor this legacy of emancipation and freedom, we are donating to this Juneteenth. Black Mamas Matter Alliance seeks to ensure bodily autonomy, reproductive justice, and to improve birth-related health outcomes for BIPOC. We believe this is such important work and a meaningful way to support the tradition of liberation as we reflect on this historic day.

At A Day in June, we strive to align our actions with our values, and it is only because of our wonderful clients that we are able to make donations like this. We love and appreciate each and every one of you.

Behind Our Name // June 12 ♥️

Richard and Mildred Loving, an in*******al couple, got married in Virginia on June 2nd, 1958. In*******al marriage was illegal there, and the couple was arrested on July 14, 1958. They fled to Maryland, and later became the plaintiffs in Loving v. Virginia, challenging Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law. On June 12, 1967, the Supreme Court unanimously decided in favor of the lovings, and in*******al marriage was legalized in the United States.

A Day in June celebrates unions of all types whether the marriage is in*******al, q***r, trans, disabled, or deviant from the status quo in another way! Sometimes it takes courage to honor your love by marriage but at A Day in June, we’ve got your back. We’re here to honor your love, regardless of what it looks like. ♥️

This , we want to honor the life and work of Frank Masandrea, a premier bridal designer from the 1970s-1980s who died of AIDS in 1988. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​During the era of bridal fashion, Masandrea's designs were elegant, thoughtful, and timeless. Many of these designs would be just at home at a wedding in 2024 as they were in the 1980s. (The flocked-tulle gown in the first image is a personal favorite!)

Mr. Masandrea was born in 1947 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended college at . While he was still a student, he worked part-time in Lord & Taylor's display department. As noted, the store's bridal buyer "was so impressed with his freelance designs that he was immediately commissioned to do an exclusive bridal collection for the store. The collection brought him instant recognition," and his designs were soon displayed in the store's main windows.

After graduating, he continued designing bridal attire, most notably for The Diamond Collection. In 1972, he received Bride’s Magazine's award for best bridal designer. His designs were worn by countless brides until his death in 1988.

Rest in power, Mr. Masandrea. And thank you to for sharing Mr. Masandrea's story.
