Nestled in the heart of the Berkshires, Mahaiwe Tent, a family operated business, is proud to be entering their 36th year of serving the tristate area, including Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. We help celebrate all kinds of special events from weddings, graduations, galas, to small backyard parties and all in-between. We specialize in tents of all sizes and styles, rustic tables & bars, fine china, glassware and flatware, custom linens, lighting and many more accessories.

40 Years of Mahaiwe | Part 2

As we continue our series of celebrating 40 years of Mahaiwe, we focus on the late 90’s into the 2000’s. By this time, the business had outgrown my childhood home - and my parents took a big step forward, purchasing what would become Mahaiwe’s first true home base.

It was a leap, but one that allowed the business to grow in a new way. More space, more inventory and the ability to build something that felt established while staying true to how they started.

We operated out of this Great Barrington location for 35 years. It became the foundation of Mahaiwe - where trucks were loaded and running until dark, clients could now visit & new lines of inventory could be stored and rented.

These photos capture that era - the grand opening, the early stages of new inventory, new relationships and a business still being built by hand, one job at a time.

We’ve grown a lot since then, but this space is a big part of what got us here.

✨This year, Mahaiwe Tent celebrates 40 years✨

In 1986, my parents Tom & Lauren opened the business with a handful of tables, one tent and a lot of determination. They started by working out of my childhood home, loading their one truck and trailer by hand, learning as they went, and building something they believed in from the ground up.

During ‘86-‘92, these early days were filled with long hours, trial & error, and a deep belief in doing things the right way.

As we celebrate 40 years this season, we’re sharing a short series looking back at where we started, how we grew, and why being a small, family-run business still matters today.
