The Hole Story is PREMIERING in MOUNT SHASTA!

Screened during our 2025 Spring Film Festival, The Hole Story is an award-winning local documentary film about a mysterious sixty-foot hole discovered on Mount Shasta. Directed by Elijah Sullivan, the film blends local lore, community speculation, conspiracy, and a coming-of-age narrative to explore the social and ecological consequences of the discovery. And, due to popular demand, Mt Shasta Cinemas has added a couple more days to experience this incredible film. If you're in the area this weekend, be sure to check it out.

Congratulations, Elijah! We 🖤 Our Filmmakers!

🎬 Join us this Sunday(Aug. 9) at 2:30 p.m. at the Historic Varsity Theatre as we kick off our Seasonal Film Series with The Art of Adventure, directed by Alison Reid. We can't wait to share this film with you and kick off another great season together!

In 1957, renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman and spirited biologist Bristol Foster set out on a global expedition in a rugged Land Rover they call “The Grizzly Torque”. Starting in the UK, their travels take them to the far corners of the earth. From the lush rainforests of the Congo to the vibrant landscapes of India, Bob paints the wonders they encounter, while Bristol films on his 16mm Bolex camera. Fifty-seven years later, the abandoned Grizzly Torque is rediscovered. As its hidden history emerges and a new owner restores it to its former glory, the tale of their environmental activism through art and science unfolds.

The New York Times has included Seeds as part of 'The Best Movies of 2026, So Far'!

Seeds, screened during our 2025 Spring Film Festival, and winner of our Visionary Lens Award, was shot over the course of nine years and is a lyrical exploration of the lives, legacies, hardships, and wisdom of three families of black generational farmers in the American South.

“Brittany Shyne’s extraordinarily beautiful film isn’t journalistic. It’s something more like a softly sung ballad, handed down from generation to generation. For men like Head and Williams, the struggle to keep land in the family and make a living is about preserving the past and creating the future.” - New York Times Review

Congratulations, Brittany! Seeds is most definitely a MUST SEE.

Earlier this month, Director of Programming, Aura Johnson had the extra special honor of delivering Craig Baldwin his Indie Institution Award. 🥰

Craig Baldwin’s Other Cinema Archive, founded in 1985, is widely recognized for its 'vaudevillian' approach to media consumption, merging experimental film, found-footage 'essay films,' activist media, and avant-garde performance. The archive holds an expansive, subcultural repository of ephemeral media, including amateur films, educational reels, industrial footage, and counter-culture films.

Craig Baldwin is an absolute gem to our indie cinema community and it is always a joy to celebrate him. Congratulations, our friend!

2026 Spring Film Fest Award Highlight: Special Jury Recognition, Blood & Guts, Carlye Rubin, Katie Green, Tina Grapenthin

The lines between real life and reel life are muddied in the story of the Adams, an unconventional family who makes independent horror films. While they may vomit blood onto one another, lack boundaries, and make frequent use of the f-word, they also face what every family must: change.

"After meeting and falling in love with Toby, Zelda, Lulu, and John, we got completely sucked into their world. They reminded us why we started making films in the first place. We know audiences will fall as hard for them as we did and we can't wait to see what they do next. As the Adams Family likes to say, "DIY Til You Die"!"

Congratulations Carlye, Katie, and Tina! We were beyond thrilled to celebrate you and all of your talent during this year's fest.

Our friends at Big Dog Studio (John Pugh) are hosting a Movie Night! Here's what you need to know... 😎

Taking place this Saturday at 7:00 p.m., join Big Dog Studio for a screening of Shadow of a Doubt, a classic film noir that explores the darkness beneath the surface of what appears to be a friendly town, a happy family, and especially, Uncle Charlie. Shadow of a Doubt was Alfred Hitchcock's personal favorite film, and it received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. With perhaps a little less suspense, and a little more David Lynch, we all know who the murderer is from the beginning.

Big Dog Studio is located at 255 Helman Street 1C/D in Ashland. Don't miss out!
