Unexpected things I’ve learned as a wedding photographer.

I had a vision for what being a photographer would be, and just like anything else, it’s a little different in practice. So far, it’s been so much fuller of an experience than I could have anticipated, and I’m still in it for the long haul until I no longer find joy in it.

The story of Pan.

The god of the wild and shepherds and forests.

The one who finds home in the in-between. Somehow always finding moments perpetually fleeting, yet holding them as a part of your soul forever.

Wild laughter echoing through sun-drenched trees. Music deeply rooted in your own history, maybe even from another lifetime. Quiet of creaking branches and rain on leaves.

Intertwined energy that begs you to be present, but turns its shoulder when ignored. Never flawless, never curated, but completely perfect simply for existing in the first place.

For if we are birds, going into the night.

You’ll hear my cries above any foul wind.

Haunting you in the daylight, you’ll see me in the rain, hear me in the trees, find a piece of me in every grain of sand.

Your star on a starless night, you are never truly alone, even in the darkest of internal turmoils.

Travel halfway across the country, and find yourself a temporary home here amidst the fallen maple leaves and sighing ferns.

Getting ready moments in the warmth of the cabin, before Whitney & Zach share the sweetest first look to a soundtrack of rain. A ceremony led by , moments that are absolutely engrained into your soul like no other.

My greatest cinematic influences in 2025.

- The Lord of the Rings
- The Haunting of Hill House
- Call Me By Your Name
- Pride and Prejudice
- Pan’s Labyrinth

My photos, followed by stills from each movie inspiration.

Some of these have had a huge presence in my brain for years, like LOTR and Pan’s Labyrinth. Others, I’ve collected over time that quickly became staples, like Pride & Prejudice. And still more tend to sneak up on me, worm their way in and stay there, like Call Me By Your Name which I just found last year, and is now one of my favorite movies of all time.

Every wedding, every elopement, and every session I photograph is different. Different personalities, new environments, fluctuating lighting and seasons weather, there’s always something to adapt to. Those moments are colored like movie scenes, intertwined to tell one part of the story but cohesive enough to come from the same movie.

A Seattle Courthouse elopement story.

The full story - from anxiously waiting for your check in time in the hallway, to pouring over the paperwork, to a private ceremony in front of wide sunlit picture windows.

After signing, making our way to the rooftop at sunset, watching planes fly their path as we fly ours. Then taking photos around the city until the dark settles in.

I couldn’t believe the light we had for this October elopement, which against all odds, should have been a dark and dreary day (which honestly, is also my favorite). Eloping at the courthouse quickly and surprisingly became one of my favorite elopements to photograph last year. If you’re thinking of doing a courthouse elopement and are unsure where to start or how it works, I’ve got you covered and then some 🖤

A few of my favorite candids from 2025.

I love my saying that I specialize in loud candids and quiet portraits - this is the louder side of my photography with oodles of personality.

While I was combing through my galleries from this year, I realized I needed to tighten the definition of what a candid photograph is. I initially imagine genuine, real reactions of people, but candids are much more than that.

Candids are the heart of a documentarian vision. None of these moments are posed, prompted, or directed. These are my reasons why my camera is always up, and why I’m often clicking away before and after an intended photograph. Moments that are not planned for, and are impossible to reproduce.
