Today, Donald Trump signed an executive order to reschedule cannabis from Schedule 1, to Schedule 3, finally saying it’s a less dangerous drug.
At surface level, this seems like wonderful news.
Unfortunately, this is quite possibly a death sentence for all legacy cannabis in the U.S.
A schedule 3 drug is almost always put into the hands of the pharmaceutical industrial complex, who will find a way to produce it more cheaply, synthesize it chemically, and profit off of it in cruel and inhumane ways.
This is not cause for celebration. This executive order is something to be very, very cautious of.
Rescheduling cannabis, banning “psychoactive hemp”, launching smear campaigns focused on “scromiting”…this is a power play, and anyone in any section of the legacy industry can see straight through this veneer of American goodwill.
If the current administration can reschedule cannabis via executive order, they could have just as easily descheduled it. Remember that.
To those of you who rely on cannabis as a means to avoid pharmaceuticals, I’m so very sorry. From the bottom of my heart.
Just know that we’re fighting to keep this plant accessible to you in its natural form.
